Claire Monk - Teacher
Claire Monk is an inspiring educator who teaches STEM in New Albany. Claire brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in climate education and sustainability practices. As a dedicated teacher, she has been at the forefront of integrating climate-focused curricula into her classroom, fostering a generation of environmentally conscious students. She will provide valuable tips on how to pursue a career in education with a focus on climate and sustainability. Shannon Stewart - AmeriCorps Director
When the AmeriCorps program expanded to 26 members in September of 2014, Shannon joined our staff as the AmeriCorps Program Assistant, eventually transitioning to Manager and then Director when founding Director Candi Withem retired and kicked Shannon out of the nest. Shannon, like their predecessor, is committed to ensuring National Service as a grassroots driver for Appalachian Ohio’s community development. Their favorite part of working with Rural Action is site visits with AmeriCorps members.
Chakeyla Anderson - VP of Environment Health Safety for Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc.
Chakeyla Anderson is currently the Vice President of Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) for Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS), a stormwater management solutions company with $2B+ GBP in annual revenue. Since joining ADS in 2019, Chakeyla developed and deployed strategies that reduced safety, environmental, and security risks, resulting in the lowest injury rate in company history. In addition to her impactful EHS&S role, Chakeyla is the owner of a for-profit social enterprise, Bottoms Up Coffee, a socially conscious craft coffee shop that is on a mission to inspire and achieve change through great coffee and community engagement. Bottoms Up Coffee prioritizes sourcing from local small businesses and a hiring process that places a strong focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Chakeyla earned her Master of Public Health, Occupational EHS Management from Tulane University, and her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.
