Title: Paleoclimate data assimilation: New views into past climates

Abstract: Reconstructing spatiotemporal patterns of past climate change is challenging given that geological information is unevenly distribution both in space and time. One solution to the problem is to employ data assimilation techniques to combine proxy data and modeling simulations. In this talk I’ll review recent and ongoing research concerning the use of paleoclimate data assimilation to produce full-field reconstructions of past climates, and highlight some of the key insights afforded by the technique.
