2025-01-21 08:00:00 2025-01-21 10:00:00 Launch of the International Year of Glaciers' Preservation 2025 In December 2022, the UN General Assembly declared 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers' Preservation and March 21 as World Day for Glaciers, starting in 2025. This initiative highlights the vital role of glaciers in the climate system and the urgent need for preservation amid accelerating glacier melt. Coordinated by UNESCO and WMO, the 2025 IYGP will engage policymakers, scientists, and the public in a year-long campaign to promote research, policy, and action on glacier-related climate adaptation. The launch event will feature a high-level session and online activities, with free registration open to all.The High Level Plenary Opening, co-organized by WMO and UNESCO with the support of Tajikistan and France, will be held at 14:00-16:00 CET (8:00 a.m. Eastern Time) in Salle Obasi, WMO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
