Karsten Look is a Mechanical Engineer and Researcher returning from a thirteen-month deployment at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. They graduated from Ohio State with a BS in mechanical engineering in 2020, during which they researched means of decreasing the fuel consumption of jet engines at the OSU Gas Turbine Lab. After graduation, they continued this work as an Aerospace Researcher at the NASA Glenn Research center. Most recently, they completed a thirteen-month contract with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics to deploy to the south pole under the United States Antarctic Program. Their work supported the BICEP-3 telescope, which observes the Cosmic Microwave Background – the oldest light in the universe – to better understand cosmic inflation after the big bang.
