GIS day is an annual event for students, staff, faculty, and the broader community to learn more about geographic information systems (GIS) and to celebrate the power of geospatial data, methods, and technologies for answering research questions and solving real-world problems.
Join the University Libraries on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 for an in-person GIS Day program that will include:
- 10am – 12pm: Columbus Sanborn Georef-a-thon (morning)
- Get some hands-on experience creating geospatial data from digitized historical maps. They will be using the OldInsuranceMaps.net platform to georeference Sanborn maps of Columbus in the 1950s. Your contributions will support the use of these maps for historical GIS projects!
- 12:15 – 1:45pm: GIS Career Development Workshop
- Learn more about navigating the GIS profession and tips for landing your first (or next) GIS job, as advisors, recent interns, and graduates share their perspectives, experiences, and expertise.
- 2 – 4pm: Columbus Sanborn Georef-a-thon (afternoon)
A light lunch will be served beginning at 12pm.
GIS Day 2023 is a free program and was co-organized by partners representing the CFAES Knowledge Exchange, Center for Urban and Regional Analysis, Department of Geography, Facilities Information Technology Services, and University Libraries.
