Polar Eco-Vehicle Inuit WindSled, Mobile Laboratory in Antarctica
Abstract:
The Inuit WindSled project is based on an Aeolian vehicle, the Inuit WindSled, with capacity to transport 2,500 kilos of cargo, scientific equipment, and a crew of up to 6 people along thousands of kilometers through polar lands. This vehicle, a real mobile laboratory, is the only 'zero emissions' polar vehicle that exists, easy to transport and with much lower cost than other means. The WindSled has already traveled more than 20,000 kilometers in Antarctica and the Arctic on 10 expeditions and collected samples and data for scientific projects of great international impact, such as the Dark Snow or MicroAirpolar projects. Its objective is to develop 'clean science' (green science) in places of complex and expensive access for researchers from all over the world and from diverse scientific arenas. Its designer is the Spaniard Ramon Larramendi, a great connoisseur of polar territories. The development of the Inuit WindSled, its possibilities for research and details of the Antarctica scientific expedition that is being prepared for 2018-19 will be announced, in which the incorporation of projects, such as SOLID (signs of life detection) trials, are currently under study. The expedition will cover 7,500 km on a circular route through the interior of Antarctica.
