Ice & Aspire Event Celebrated Byrd Center's 65th Anniversary and Supported Undergraduate Scholarship

To mark its 65th anniversary, the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center at The Ohio State University hosted Ice & Aspire, a special fundraising event held on May 22, 2025. The evening brought together friends of the Center, community members, researchers, staff, and students to celebrate the Center's legacy and vision for the future.
Held at the Center on Ohio State's West Campus, the event featured a silent auction, guided tours of the Byrd Center, and opportunities for guests to engage with scientists about their current work in climate and polar research. A highlight of the evening was the screening of the historic film With Byrd at the South Pole (1930), offering attendees a rare glimpse into the early days of Antarctic exploration.
Proceeds from Ice & Aspire will support the McKenzie-Brecher Undergraduate Scholarship, which provides funding for undergraduate students in any field conducting research in collaboration with Byrd Center scientists. Named in honor of two esteemed researchers who played a foundational role in the Center's history, Earth Sciences Professor Emeritus Garry McKenzie and Research Scientist Henry Brecher, the scholarship reflects the Center's deep commitment to mentorship, hands-on learning, and academic excellence.
Thanks to our supporters and Byrd Center family, the event's success highlights the Byrd Center's ongoing dedication to advancing polar and climate research while nurturing the next generation of scholars and scientific leaders.
