Debris-Covered Glaciers Panel - Debris Properties

Rocky mountain landscape with a glacier in the background
January 12, 2022
9:00 am - 11:00 am
Webinar | Zoom

This is a six-part series. The topics include:

  1. Debris properties
  2. Debris-covered glacier meteorology
  3. Debris-covered glacier ablation
  4. Debris-covered glacier hydrology
  5. Debris transport and geomorphology
  6. Synthesis and long-term views

As glaciers continue to shrink they are becoming increasingly covered with loose rocky debris which greatly affects their response to climate change & presents unique challenges for measurement & modeling.

We intend to bring together experts in the field to discuss multiple topics in 6 panels, with an open interaction with audience. The insights generated will be synthesized & contributed toward the ongoing development of an opensource "Manual of methods for the study of debris-covered glaciers” to be published in cooperation with UNESCO.

Panel moderators include Leif Anderson, Catriona Fyffe, Akiko Sakai, Forrest Schoessow, and Jakob Steiner (co-editors of the manual) with support from the Debris-covered Glacier Working Group of the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS).
