Emily Mazan Successfully Defends her Ph.D. Dissertation

Congratulations to Emily Mazan on the successful defense of her Ph.D. dissertation, "A Multiscale Examination of Changing Mountain Climates: Integrating Observations and Modeling in the Snake Range, USA, and Cordillera Blanca, Peru."

Emily's dissertation committee included Professors Steven Quiring, Zhengyu Liu, and Alvaro Montenegro, with Alia Dietsch from the School of Environment and Natural Resources serving as the Graduate Faculty Representative.

For the remainder of the summer, Emily will continue as a Graduate Research Associate on the NSF-funded AccelNet ACCORD project, which focuses on climate change in the Andes. She has also been collaborating with Jason Cervenec and the education team at Byrd Polar to develop educational materials focused on mountain climate change.

In the coming weeks, Emily will travel to South America to present her research at the ANDEX meeting in Cuenca, Ecuador, before leading a workshop for K–12 teachers in Peru.

Congratulations, Emily, and best wishes as you continue your research and outreach efforts!
