Current opportunities
The Polar Geomicrobiology Group is recruiting a PhD student to study the microbiology of polar marine sediments. The student will have the opportunity to conduct research with international collaborators on the Sensitivity of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet to 2°C Warming project. Please contact Alex Michaud (michaud.58@osu.edu) to discuss the project and graduate school at the School of Earth Sciences, Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center, and The Ohio State University. Applications are due 1 Dec 2024 and 30 Nov 2024 for international students.
Future Opportunities
We are always looking for motivated undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to join the group. There are many OSU internal resources and external funding sources for you to fund your own graduate and postdoctoral programs. I am happy to work with you to develop proposals for these opportunities.
OSU Internal Resources
Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) Opportunities for both summer and academic year research.
Friends of Orton Hall For Undergraduate and graduate students in support of their degree research work.
OSU Graduate School Fellowships Many different types and typically applied for once accepted to Graduate School at OSU.
Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center – McKenzie & Brecher Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship To be used in support of your undergraduate research.
External Resources (Thanks to Matthew Sullivan in the Microbiology Department for collecting this list)
Below is a list of fellowships that are available for graduate studies (though there are new opportunities all the time, so doing your own search on the web is a good idea). These fellowships are typically written before or within your first year of your PhD program and usually pay part of the total cost of tuition and stipend for a fixed period. The balance of the support is picked up by the Lab’s research grants. For helpful advice on applying for graduate fellowships, please visit The Chronical of Higher Education’s “How to Win a Graduate Fellowship.” I am happy to work with you to develop proposals for these opportunities.
