Key Facts:
Stanislav Kutuzov graduated with First Class joint BSc and MSc degree in Glaciology from the Moscow Lomonosov State University, Moscow, Russia in 2005. He joint the Glaciology Laboratory, Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow as PhD student and research scientist. In 2007-2009 he was a visiting PhD student at the University of Reading and successfully obtained his PhD in Glaciology in November 2009. He had FP7-PEOPLE Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship at the University of Reading and was working on the project 'Dust impacts on glaciated environments' (DIOGENES). This interdisciplinary project addresses impacts of dust on glaciers bringing together two major issues that are in the focus of climate change research: glacier shrinkage and impacts of mineral aerosol (dust) on climate system. From 2016 to 2022 he was Head of Dept. of Glaciology the Institute of Geography. In 2017-2019 he was a leading author of the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC). He surved as a vice president of the IACS (International association of Cryospheric Sciences) and member of the Scientific Committee of the Ice Memory Foundation in 2018-2023.

Stanislav was involved in many field work studies in different regions including the Caucasus, Altai, Tien Shan, Kamchatka, Russian Arctic, Andes, Tibet, Svalbard, Scandinavia.
He is a principal investigator and co-investigator in a number of ongoing projects.

  • The international Laboratory of natural and anthropogenic past environmental changes
  • Currently he works on the NSF project Atmospheric Mineral Nanoparticles in Antarctic Ice during the last Climatic Cycle
