The Ohio State University's School of Earth Sciences presents the 78th Bownocker technical lecture featuring Professor Lindy Elkins-Tanton

Around 252 million years ago the Siberian flood basalts intruded into and erupted onto the Siberian craton, producing about three million cubic kilometers of lava.

Lindy Elkins-Tanton, Vice President and Professor, School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University and principal investigator, discusses her work including research over five field seasons with her team in Siberia and their conclusion that extinction at the end-Permian was likely caused by chemical changes in the atmosphere that radically altered climate and atmospheric and ocean chemistry.
