The First Recipient of the Georganne M. Shockey Undergraduate Scholarship in Public Health Announced
Last month, Ohio State University's College of Public Health (CPH) announced Mohini Parvate as the inaugural recipient of the Georganne M. Shockey Undergraduate Scholarship. A third-year student majoring in Environmental Public Health with a minor in Statistics, Parvate is working with Professor Laura Pomeroy on researching the influence of weather patterns, including precipitation and temperature, on mosquito-borne illnesses. This research is critical in understanding the intricate relationship between climate factors and public health risks. Additionally, Parvate is working with Byrd Center Principal Investigator Professor Marta Jarzyna from the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology (EEOB), further enriching her research experience.
Parvate aims to pursue a graduate degree in biostatistics and infectious disease modeling. Parvate believes computational modeling and epidemiology are vital for forecasting disease spread and developing effective prevention strategies.
The Georganne M. Shockey Scholarship is awarded annually to a student in CPH.
