Individual poses for a photo in front of a large ship in a snowy landscape

Byrd Center Research Scientists, Joel Johnson and Ken Jezek, as well as Oguz Demir, a graduate student in the electrical and computer engineering at OSU, took part in Multidisciplinary Drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate mission, or MOSAiC to operate an ultrawide band radiometer to estimate sea ice thickness and salinity.

Learn more about the MOSAiC expedition in the NOVA special, Arctic Drift at PBS.

For those who would like to explore the ship and scientific “cities” established on the ice, the Byrd Center offers a virtual tour at https://virtualice.byrd.osu.edu/mosaic/.
