Patagonia Ice Fields are Vulnerable to El Niño Events

Demián Gómez, Assistant Professor in the School of Earth Sciences (SES) and Byrd Center researcher at The Ohio State University, recently co-authored a report published in the journal Scientific Reports, titled Transient Ice Loss in the Patagonia Icefields during the 2015–2016 El Niño Event. The research involved the use of  Global Positioning System (GPS) and satellite data to isolate the rapid ice loss at the Patagonia Icefields (PIFs) associated with a strong El Niño.
