Here we are featuring one of our oldest rocks! This gneiss is from the Heimefrontfjella mountains in Dronning Maud Land.
These mountains are composed of several igneous and metamorphic rocks (including gneisses, granites, and charnockites) that are often over a billion years old. This gneiss and many others from this region were recently donated by Mark Helper of UT Austin.
