Library Mural Collection: by Maria Burns

Maria Burns headshot

These collages were created by Maria Burns, a 2020 alumna in Visual Communication Design at the Ohio State University, to express the array of work done by the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center.  Each collage combines artifacts, animals, scenery, and people ranging from Byrd’s explorations in the early 1900s, to the all-women Antarctic expedition in 1969, to Byrd Center events in the 2010s.  The text fragments come from Admiral Byrd’s writings in Alone. For two years Maria was the Byrd Center's undergraduate lead for graphic design and worked on projects including the Columbus Climate Change Action Plan document, building signage, and research infographics.
