Congratulations Allison!
Allison Chartrand successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation earlier this month. The title of her dissertation was The Evolution and Impact of Kilometer-scale Melt Features in Antarctic Ice Shelves. Her committee members included Ian Howat (advisor), Michael Durand, Ashley Griffith, and Joachim Moortgat from the School of Earth Sciences. Sanggu Kim from the College of Veterinary Medicine was the Graduate Faculty Rep at her defense.
Allison was also a 22-23 Distinguished University Graduate Fellow and a 2022 Lois M. Jones Award recipient.
Allison will continue working with the Glacier Dynamics Research Group as a Research Associate until the end of September. Then she starts a Postdoctoral Research Associate position at Goddard Space Flight Center through a cooperative agreement with ESSIC at the University of Maryland. There she will be working on a project called Greenland-scape, where she will work with the Ice Sheet System Model to estimate the bed topography and ice velocity at the bed of the Greenland Ice Sheet.
